Senior Simulation Engineer
Working within a team responsible for delivering mechanical subsystems within a new category product. The team is growing and changing to meet the developing needs of the project, and therefore need to work together to cover all aspects of initial scoping and specification, through design, prototyping and validation testing, and up to release for production. As a result, a suitable candidate will demonstrate an ability to adapt to the changing needs of their work and bring a variety of skills to the role, founded on sound engineering knowledge.
The building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Over 1,500 people, including James himself, spend their days strategizing, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world. From 2016, our HQ will begin doubling its footprint with an ambitious new expansion.
Reporting to Mechanical Research Manager, you will join a growing team of engineers in Dyson’s New Product Innovation group.
Create and operate simulation models to predict electro-mechanical system behaviour and performance characteristics
Maintain and expand those models throughout projects as required
Generate sub-system and component operational data to assist with design and development.
Define required objective testing to correlate simulation and real world behaviour and work with support teams to arrange and conduct this testing.
Have the ability to understand the overall product concept and contribute significantly to the design of the product through the use of knowledge of the latest technologies / methods in electrical and mechanical systems
Work closely with the other engineering disciplines to ensure that the product performance, reliability and cost expectations are met, all within the planned timeline of the project
Communicate clearly and effectively the results and project status to a broad spectrum of associated project members and senior management
Create and manage your own time using planning tools such as Microsoft Project and make sure this is integrated to the overall project plan and managed by the Project Manager regularly as well as efficiently.
Education and experience:
Minimum BEng/MEng degree (2:1 degree or better) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with a demonstrable level of industrial experience in the simulation, analysis and development of mechanical systems
Experience of Matlab and Simulink is preferred
Ability to develop mathematics based models for performance prediction, design and analysis
Strong technical expertise with breadth and depth, particularly in the area of rotating machinery and electric motor driven systems
Ability to analyse systems to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
Appreciation of a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines such aerodynamics, thermodynamics, CFD analysis and electrical, electronics and electromagnetic systems
Experience in the definition of system duty and life cycle requirements would be beneficial
