£15,500 per annum, plus bonus and training

CSR at Dyson encompasses a variety of global projects to address the environmental impacts of our products, our operations (buildings, travel, cafes etc.) and our suppliers. An example would be changing offices and stores to renewable energy tariffs. It also includes some people based projects, to address the well-being and education of employees, students and local communities, for example donating products and parts to a local children’s charity.

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).

Function Overview

Sustainable engineering is at the heart of the lifecycle of Dyson machines – from design, sourcing and manufacture, to logistics and end of life. Our CSR team works with Dyson engineers to improve the environmental performance of our machines and operations, making sure our materials and parts are manufactured in a responsible manner and ensuring fair conditions for the workers in the Dyson supply chain.

Accountabilities

As an Apprentice CSR Coordinator, you will be fully trained during your apprenticeship in the following areas:

Project coordination: Contributing to project plans and timelines, arranging meetings, drafting agendas and taking actions/minutes, collecting project feedback.

Research: Assisting with research, keeping up to date with CSR/sustainability news.

Stakeholder & event management: Maintaining a database of stakeholders (internal and external), drafting updates and managing CSR webpages, organising ambassador meetings and an annual CSR Summit.

Analysis & reporting: Collating data, keeping a database of CSR survey questions and model answers.

Enquiry handling: Receiving and directing enquiries from employees, customers, retailers and suppliers, escalating popular enquiry topics for action.


The Apprenticeship

The apprenticeship training will be delivered by our trusted training provider, QA Limited. You will work towards achieving a City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration.


The apprenticeship will approximately 15 months to complete. You will occasionally attend offsite training one of QA's local training centres, in either Bristol or Reading, all other training will be delivered onsite at Dyson HQ.

You will study a variety of modules, including but not limited to:

  • Principles of Business Communication & Information
  • Principles of Administration
  • Principles of Business

Skills

We assess each application on its merits, but typically we ask for a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English, Mathematics and Science. Ideally you will also have completed 2 A Levels or a BTEC (or equivalent) by October 2017, including a C or above in at least one Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) subject, or Geography.

We're looking for people who demonstrate the drive, enthusiasm, self-motivation, teamwork skills and initiative required to thirve at Dyson. You’ll need to be have an interest in problem solving, be well organised and have good time management skills, and be able to work conscientiously without direct supervision. Good written and verbal communication skills through a variety of channels, including documentation, face to face and over the phone, are a must.

An interest in physical geography, the environment, sustainability and/or technology would be desirable. It would also be useful to have a good working understanding of Microsoft Applications (including Powerpoint, Excel, Word) and the ability to travel if required.
