Apprentice Project Manager – Marketing Claims

£15,500 per annum, plus bonus and training

Malmesbury, Wiltshire, plus occasional offsite training in either Bristol or Reading


The Claims, Standards and Insights team is the interface between Dyson’s engineers and its marketing team – it takes Dyson’s inventive technology and differentiates it by articulating compelling scientific proof. Market Overview

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).

Function Overview

Claims Managers are responsible for making sure that any claims we make about a product can be backed-up by appropriate evidence. Claims could feature on the product itself, or may be stated in advertising or promotional material. An example could be: “Powerful digital motor. Designed for fast drying”. Sometimes, companies get challenged on their claims by groups such as regulators or competitors.

The Claims Manager’s job is to compile evidence to support the claim by gathering test data, e.g. ‘powerful’ and ‘fast drying’, in case we get challenged.


As an Apprentice Project Manager in the Claims team, you will be fully trained during your apprenticeship and will support the Claims Managers in the following areas:

Claims Substantiation: Coordinating the compiling of evidence to support claims, identifying gaps in the data and drafting action plans.

Project Management: Planning the testing of a range of marketed products, managing budget, sourcing sample machines, managing internal stakeholders across multiple functions at key milestones.

Advisory: Briefing Marketing teams as to what they can and can’t say about a product.

The Apprenticeship

The apprenticeship training will be delivered by our trusted training provider, QA Limited. You will work towards achieving a level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship, including qualifications such as PMQ, APM (IPMA Level D) and Agile Foundation.

The apprenticeship will approximately 21 months to complete. You will occasionally attend offsite training one of QA's local training centres, in either Bristol or Reading, all other training will be delivered onsite at Dyson HQ.

You will study a variety of modules, including but not limited to:
  • Principles of Project Management
  • Agile Project Management Foundation
  • Business Case and Investment Appraisal
  • Planning, Risk and Quality
  • Running and Managing the Project


We assess each application on its merits, but we ask for a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English, Mathematics and Science. You will also have completed 2 A Levels or a BTEC (or equivalent) by October 2017, including a C or above in at least one Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) subject.

We're looking for people who demonstrate the ambition, enthusiasm, self-motivation, teamwork skills and initiative required to thirve at Dyson. You’ll need to be able to manage multiple projects at once, have good attention to detail, work accurately and demonstrate a commercial awareness. Good written and verbal communication skills through a variety of channels, including documentation, face to face and over the phone, are a must.

Previous study of English at GCSE grade B or above and/or A-level English would also be beneficial.
