Dyson offers a unique opportunity for a motivated and dynamic test technician in the Energy Storage team within Dyson’s Research, Design and Development (RDD) department.

Function Overview

  • Electrical battery testing (lifecycle testing, performance characterisation abusive testing
  • Test setup and validation (hardware & software)
  • Commissioning and maintaining test equipment
  • Assist with organisation of work load to ensure maximum efficiency
  • Develop and implement test methods in line with company requirements
  • Preparing written plans, detailed work instructions and standard test methods
  • Analysis of test results using Microsoft Excel
  • Review of data and presentation preliminary analyses
  • Trouble-shooting and problem solving through standard electrical diagnostic test techniques
  • Provide technical support and specialist knowledge to projects


  • Hands-on skills for electrical and physical testing, good practical worker
  • Strong IT skills, particularly for data analysis
  • Methodical approach to testing to maintain traceability
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving skills exemplified by the ability to diagnose and rectify problem
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • BSc/MSc in Applied Engineering or Science discipline (Physics; Electrical Engineering; Physical Chemistry etc.)

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with battery or electrochemical device testing
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with commercial battery testers and data logger systems
  • Electrochemical engineering knowledge and understanding of battery technologies

Personal Skills:

  • Self-motivated to meet objectives; must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to work both alone and in teams as required
