competitive + bonus + pension + 27 days holiday

Dyson has an opportunity for a Technician to join their multidisciplinary Energy Storage and Power Systems Group. The integrated group are responsible for providing complete energy storage solutions for Dyson’s cord-free products and are comprised of cell chemistry experts, power systems engineers and firmware engineers, who, along with the motors teams, are able to design and deliver the complete power system.

Market Overview

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology). The building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Nearly 2,000 people, including James himself, spend their days strategizing, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world. In 2017, our HQ will double its footprint with an ambitious new expansion.

Function Overview

Sometimes, making a technological leap forward means going back to the beginning. Since 1999, we’ve spent £150m building a motor from scratch – small, light and efficient, yet extremely powerful. Our motors are what enable our technology to be different – it’s why they’re protected by 20 to 30 patents. But the next generation demands new directions. Energy storage, robotics, nanotechnology and space-age materials. So our multi-disciplinary team, led by some of the world’s best power electronics engineers, knows that only the most pioneering thinking will do. That’s the Dyson way.

The Technician's day to day responsibilities will be: •Battery pack assembly to support in house testing •Test rig design and build •Preparation of detailed work instructions, process documents and standard test methods •Responsible for maintaining stocks of parts to support battery pack builds •Assist Lab Owners with day-to-day running of the lab •Support Test and Power Electronics Engineers with battery pack testing to include: ◦Test setup and validation (hardware & software) ◦Commissioning and maintaining test equipment ◦Review of data and presentation preliminary analyses •Trouble-shooting and problem solving through standard electrical diagnostic test techniques

The skills required of the Technician will be to:
