Market Overview

In 2000, Dyson moved production from the UK to Malaysia to be closer to our supply chains and open up international growth. The small team of 10 has now grown to almost 1,200 – forming Dyson’s second biggest global hub. Located in the exhilarating industrial heart of Johor, it’s also home to RDD, IT, operations, finance, creative and HR. The RDD facility is central to our plans to launch 100 new machines in the next four years. To meet these ambitions, we recently expanded the site to 30,000m², with 50 advanced technology labs and 700 new engineers. In the Dyson world, there’s no more exciting place to be.

Function Overview

Operations at Dyson plays a vital role in strategic decision making. Ultimately it affects the very design of our machines and the growth ambitions of the business. Challenging and diverse, their work creates a dynamic, driven team. Where the ‘next big thing’ relies on their ability to deliver agile, lean solutions as much as the inventiveness of Dyson engineers’ themselves. It’s one thing to solve a problem that’ll change technology forever. But turning that idea into a reality takes solving many more problems – and success is ultimately measured, not by the thinking, but by the product. Our Manufacturing department supports over 1,000 Dyson engineers worldwide turning ideas into groundbreaking technology. Involved early in the design, we identify materials, pre-empt production issues and find ways to build more efficiently. Yet robustly. From designing the machines, to the machines that build the machines, we’re helping to shape the future of technology.

Accountabilities

Our internships last between 3 – 6 months and from day one you’ll be assigned to a live project team where you’ll be supporting the evolution of Dyson technology. As an intern you’ll be learning from industry experts and gaining invaluable exposure to the inner workings of Dyson. Working on live projects from the start, you’ll have the chance to make a real impact. In this role you will support the post implementation of the SAP/APO solution - a system used to manage our supply and demand information – and will be taking data from a number of platforms and sources and managing that information. You’ll be conducting analysis to make sense of the data and create value through visualisation of the findings to share with the Business. During your internship we’ll support your development to help you understand Dyson and grow into the role. The rest is up to you; the chance to help shape the next generation of Dyson technology and even secure a graduate role upon completion of your studies.

Skills

You’ll be currently studying toward an analytical degree, and seeking experience to work closely with with Data. You’ll be IT savvy and have good data processing skills using Excel VBA, SQL, Access, HTML etc and Python would be beneficial. You will need a passion for solving complex problems, the ability to relate and apply concepts learnt at school to the business environment, and ideally a good understanding of Supply Chain principles. Working as part of a team, you’ll still need to be able to manage to work independently and must possess strong communication skills.
