Description and Requirements

The motors operations project manager (Ops PM) will lead a multi-discipline team from engineering, operations, quality and commercial disciplines to achieve the production scale, risk mitigation and cost control required of the latest Dyson motors. Providing a single point of focus for the post start of production motor management the motors Ops PM will also be responsible for evolutionary designs, optimisations and reliability improvements of in production motor systems. The role requires significant technical understanding with the incumbent needing to understand and communicate project status, risk and technical progress to senior management; whilst interacting with key stakeholders in the engineering, operations, Quality and commercial teams as well as key suppliers in the Motor supply base.

At the beginning of 2017 we opened our new, state of the art, Singapore Technology Centre in Science Park I, minutes from Singapore’s technology and start-up community. This new Technology Centre houses some of Dyson’s most advanced facilities including Robotics and Sensors laboratories and Smart Home, Connectivity & Mobile Applications laboratories as well as an Advanced Control Tower with the latest technology to develop its analytics-driven activities.

Not too far away is our Advanced Manufacturing Centre, our flagship advanced motor manufacturing facility where we develop our autonomous robotic manufacturing capabilities – more than 300 robots assemble our Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) here. It is here that we develop our next generation of motor technology.
 

Function Overview:

Our motors are what enable our technology to be different – it’s why they’re protected by 20 to 30 patents. But the next generation demands new directions. Energy storage, robotics, nanotechnology and space-age materials. So our multi-disciplinary team, led by some of the world’s best power electronics engineers, knows that only the most pioneering thinking will do.   

Accountabilities:

  • Delivering increase scale of production motors projects to the agreed performance, cost and time parameters.

  • Delivering optimisation and evolution projects to the agreed performance, cost and time parameters.    

  • Driving the realisation of the business ambitions on motor volume ramp from Commercial numbers through to Supply chain commitments.  

  • Lead communication with all stakeholders acting as a first point of contact with all stakeholders for their motors.

  • Responsible for Defining the communications plan for each project to ensure all stakeholders are kept informed in an efficient manner.

  • Coordination of the motors production cross team ensure the continued quality and efficiency of motor production throughout the motor life cycle.

  • Ownership of the Project budget and CAPEX top level project requirements.

  • Ownership of the level 0-2 plans and ensuring their delivery through prioritisation and escalation of unresolved conflicts.

  • Define the project team setup in conjunction with the engineering leads detailing the makeup of the team to achieve the project.

  • Ensuring the Project KPI reporting is kept up to date and reflects accurately the state of the project. 

     

Skills:

Technical

  • First Degree (Engineering preferable) or equivalent

  • Formal Project Management training/ qualifications are desirable but not essential

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Project

Experience


  • Minimum of 3 years project management in a similar engineering field demonstrating good knowledge of the complete project life cycle

  • Strong communicator; ability to convey complex issues concisely and accurately

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build productive working relationships and influence

  • Excellent analytical skills; to be able to assess problems thoroughly and drive logical conclusions

  • Confident; comfortable with interacting with senior executives without being tempted to dilute unpleasant news or back down from well-reasoned analysis

  • Credible; ability to demonstrate a good level of understanding of engineering processes in order to work with design teams throughout the project development cycle

  • To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment

  • Commercially aware

  • Excellent team-working skills.
