As the Digital Demand Planning Manager, you will effectively manage, influence and challenge all Business & IT demand. You will assess and challenge demand to Dyson’s business strategy and digital roadmap, as well as build and define the demand pipeline model and associated processes. You will work closely with Digital Product Owners, Business Analysts, Programme Managers and Digital Transformation / IT Business Partners.

Function Overview

The commercial & digital teams focus on the key technologies that drive the interface with our owners, including digital commerce platforms, UI frameworks, apps, social networks, content management systems, CRM and promotions engines, campaign management tools & order management systems to name a few.

Dyson has embarked on a digital transformation programme, implementing and planning tier 1 strategic platforms and integrations across multiple channels, including ecommerce, retail, social, contact centre, app and digital marketing. Digital transcends all our categories of Floorcare, Environmental Control, Personal Care, Lighting and new areas, across all markets, globally.

Accountabilities

  • Own and manage inbound demand (tactical and strategic) for commercially-orientated digital technology and solutions
  • Build out and manage a commercially-focused, demand management and planning team, consisting both full-time and “matrix” members, including product owners, business analysts, financial, privacy and change analysts, research and admin
  • Co-ordinate, collate, group and link inbound demand from key stakeholders in both group and markets
  • Work with all layers of the organisation from senior stakeholders to delivery teams to identify, understand and manage demand versus capacity
  • Optimise collaboration with commercial product owners and IT/DT business partners 
  • Assesses and challenge relevance to business strategy and existing digital roadmap, and establish the method to do this that ensures stakeholders engage and align on difficult prioritisation decisions
  • Relate tactical demand to existing or planned strategic evolution projects, to build out a demand roadmap, with relevant product owners and/or business stakeholders 
  • Clarify and understand idea/vision/concept/objectives from business initiators to help refine demand 
  • Organise and co-ordinate early phases (pre-commitment) of demand planning: headline requirements, need definition, business benefit and validation to support effective and robust prioritisation Ensure rigour in pre-commitment process and support business case development and high-level requirement creation 
  • Co-ordinate closely with IT/DT business partners to evolve understanding of headline business requirements and undertake initial impact assessment to support business decisioning to proceed to scoping and detailed requirements
  • Development of the estimating process to allow outline requirements to be scaled for demand
  • Development and maintenance of the ‘model’ to show in-flight, approved, and non-approved demand Recognition of the likely business activities/operations effected by a project and the data needs to support it, to help understand likely scale of demand
  • Work with potential receiving business and technical product owners as demand moves forward to shaping and delivery
  • Working with IT business partners, understand existing project portfolio and delivery capacity, to manage expectations early and develop a process/structure for prioritising inbound demand
  • Co-ordinate and handover to IT/DT demand and portfolio management teams, as demand progresses into design and delivery streams
  • Monitoring and reporting on performance of this function, and continuous improvement to help improve overall delivery performance 

Skills

Essential 

  • Clear commercial focus, mixed with a good understanding of digital technology and its relationship with both the UI layer and deeper enterprise IT infrastructure
  • Ability to plan, manage, co-ordinate demand through a clear process driven approach
  • Strong analytical and strategic assessment capabilities
  • Strong business validation and investment appraisal capabilities
  • Ability to assess specific need, whilst maintaining wider context viewpoint
  • Ability to digest broad and complex demand into co-ordinated and clear briefs for early assessment stages
  • Effective influencer of business and technical stakeholders – helping them to challenge and validate their own need
  • An ability to co-ordinate cross-functional teams, involving line and non-line relationships, to deliver considered and aligned results
  • Able to influence effectively across multiple geographies and cultures
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
Desirable

  • Proven experience of managing large scale demand in the digital space, within a complex organisation
  • A clear and grounded understanding of digital technologies
  • Managing demand that has significant change implications, across people, process and systems
  • Successful management of demand into delivery portfolios relative to capacity, supporting the outcome of on-time and on-budget projects Working with ambiguity and change within the demand prioritisation process
