Description and Requirements

  • We’re looking for a number of technical leads to join our Digital technical team, working at the heart of our digital services – e-commerce, internet of things, and plenty more exciting (and secret!) things besides
  • The role itself will involve designing and delivering technical solutions to support Dyson’s big e-commerce ambitions. Our website platforms operate in dozens of countries and languages, with millions of visitors.

Market Overview:

We all know that Dyson thrives on change. We don’t like to stand still. It’s why we’re expanding more than ever before, and the new Bristol office is a key part of this expansion. At One Cathedral Square, we’ve created a flexible work space where we can build the foundations of a truly global team.

Bristol is a recognised software and innovation hub and the Owner Experience team will benefit from the space and location - practically and from a career development angle. We can access a great talent pool to help us grow, whilst improving collaboration with the Connected software team.

We’re a tight-knit function with a vast array of talent, skills and expertise. This is an opportunity to share ideas, collaborate and build world-class technology to support our owners throughout their research, purchase and support journeys

Function Overview:

Dyson’s Global IT applications service has end to end accountability for the design, delivery and support of all business applications enabling Dysons global commercial, operational and enterprise business process. Forming a large proportion of the IT Function, the team are arranged into investment areas including Owner Experience & Retail, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance & compliance and People and collaboration.

Accountabilities:

We use a number of different tech stacks – our shiny new e-commerce platform is based on Java (AEM, Hybris, and micro-services); our legacy e-commerce platform is based on .NET (Sitecore). We’ve also got some Node going on, we use a range of front-end frameworks, and all of our platforms are hosted in the cloud via AWS.

The breadth and scale at which we operate means lots of interesting problems to solve – and working with other technical leads, it’ll be up to you to make sure the right technical solutions are designed and implemented.

You’ll be working in a cross-functional team – with a product owner, business analysts, and QA – ensuring that the work fed into the development scrum teams is of the right technical quality.

You won’t be hands-on – but your previous experience means you’re at home talking to development teams as much as you are talking to the business about their requirements.

Skills:

If you join us, you’ll be joining a team of friendly, smart people across development, quality, infrastructure and support.

We’re agile - but not in a religious way. Our greenfield projects have fully embraced continuous integration and delivery – but there’s plenty still to do!

We don’t have a big list of skills and technologies you ‘must’ have in order to speak to us, but the kind of people we’re interested in sound something like this:

  • You can demonstrate extensive, professional experience with one or more programming languages, preferably Java
  • You pick up new technologies quickly, and you can give us plenty of examples
  • You’re familiar with agile and other ways of delivering software
  • You can talk to non-techies without making them scared
  • You love solving problems, and won’t give up until you’ve figured out how something works
  • You’re passionate about improving the way software is delivered
  • You can talk to us at length about the cloud and what it can offer
  • You’ve got some experience documenting / specifying the behaviour of your software - Software estimation is hard, but you can talk to us confidently about how you approach it
  • We’re especially interested in people who have: - Line management / mentoring experience - Deep domain knowledge of Java - AEM or Hybris experience - Knowledge of Spring - Operational infrastructure experience

Benefits Overview:

  • 27 days holiday plus eight statutory bank holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Performance related bonus
  • Life assurance
