Description and Requirements

Reporting to the Global IT Director – Business Application Services, the Director of Development Operations provides senior leadership to the following practices, Solution Design, Development, QA and Support which equates to circa 120 perm heads and another 200 contingent staff.

Each practice lead by a Head of, these practices provide their services across the application portfolio teams delivering fit for purpose, high quality and well supported technology solutions. Practice resources are spread across Dyson globally, particularly the development practice that has several 3rd party centres near-shore and multi-shore in addition to some UK in-house centres of excellence. The role has the following responsibilities:

Market Overview:

Dyson HQ is home to over 3,500 people who work across a medley of engineering and commercial functions. The award-winning campus has three cafes, a sports centre and a number of engineering icons including our Harrier and Lightning jets – one of which hangs from the ceiling of our café. Based in Malmesbury, the campus is within easy reach of both the Cotswolds and cities like Bath and Bristol along the M4 corridor.

Function Overview:

Dyson’s Global IT applications service has end to end accountability for the design, delivery and support of all business applications enabling Dysons global commercial, operational and enterprise business process. Forming a large proportion of the IT Function, the team are arranged into investment areas including Owner Experience & Retail, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance & compliance and People and collaboration.

Accountabilities:

  • Define and implement a DevOps strategy across practices to deliver innovation, agility, velocity and end to end accountability for support.
  • Approval of strategic planning for resources and practice capabilities including o Internal organisational design
  • Define a way of managing a complex demand curve with a supply strategy .
  • Application roadmap / strategy planning
  • Ensure delivery of innovative and robust technical solutions on time and to specification / quality.
  • Build a world class application support capability with proactive and predictive process and solutions.
  • Deliver end to end release management including well prepared and executed service transition plans.
  • Implement test automation across all platforms and processes where there is a velocity benefit and build an enduring test automation capability to maintain.
  • Align infrastructure teams with Service DR & failover/failback requirements.
  • Generate and report MI across practices.
  • Apply CSI lessons across the delivery lifecycle.

Skills:

  • Experience of leading an I.T. development or technical delivery department ideally with additional 365/24 support responsibilities.
  • Experience of implementing a Dev Ops environment
  • Detailed knowledge of commercial agreements with 3rd party software implementers and IT service providers.
  • Deep understanding of agile and waterfall development methodologies.
  • Experience managing and working with globally located teams.
  • Good financial management, budgeting and investment appraisal skills.
  • Experience of developing and delivering IT Roadmaps to meet business needs.
