Description and Requirements

  • The Electrical Safety Team at Dyson are responsible to ensure that electrical prototypes, rigs and electrical equipment is inspected to ensure that it is safe for our engineers to carry out their development work. 
  • The position will be based at our UK headquarters at Malmesbury, however there will be occasions to visit our other facilities including Hullavington and Bristol

Function Overview:

Dyson, whether at the headquarters in Malmesbury or globally, is growing at a rapid pace, and the estates team need to not only anticipate this growth, but also ensure that both new and existing properties are set up, operated and maintained to the expected standard. To create this positive and progressive working environment the estates team needs expertise in key areas – Electrical Safety within the Estates Management function is one of these areas.


  • To carry out electrical inspections in accordance with relevant legislation, HSE guidance, British Standards and Dyson electrical safety testing standards 
  • Support RDD with electrical safety inspections for equipment in the ELV + LV range that can be at an experimental or test stage 
  • Act as a point of contact for advice and guidance on electrical safety issues 
  • Conduct PAT testing, in the 100-240V range, for RDD and Group Ensure electrical test equipment used by the team is calibrated and suitable for the task
  • Contribute towards the implementation and maintenance of a database and record management system 
  • Deliver excellent customer service within agree key performance indicators


  • Ability to spot electrical safety hazards due to defective casing, construction, malfunction or incorrect wiring
  • Ability to apply safe working practices while performing electrical safety inspections and PAT tests 
  • To hold a qualification in portable appliance testing 
  • Ability to build productive working relationships and influence 
  • Good analytical skills; to be able to assess problems thoroughly and drive logical conclusions 
  • To understand the current regulations for the IEC code of practice covering service inspections and testing of electrical equipment 
  • Understand/knowledge of testing experimental items containing electrical components 
  • A knowledge of electronics would be an advantage
  • Proficiency with Microsoft package software 
  • Willingness to show initiative and desire for self and team improvement
