SGD Competitive Remuneration Package

Singapore

Description

Our Fluid Dynamics Engineer work within a team of like minded engineering problem solvers. You will be responsible for the application of fundamental physical theories and pragmatic methods to provide insight, understanding and ultimately brilliant products to the business.

Market Overview

Our Singapore story began in 2004 and today we have more than 1000 people working here. At the beginning of 2017 we opened our new, state of the art, Singapore Technology Centre in Science Park I, minutes from Singapore’s technology and start-up community. This new Technology Centre houses some of Dyson’s most advanced facilities including Robotics and Sensors laboratories and Smart Home, Connectivity & Mobile Applications laboratories as well as an Advanced Control Tower with the latest technology to develop its analytics-driven activities.

Not too far away is West Park, our flagship advanced motor manufacturing facility where we develop our autonomous robotic manufacturing capabilities – more than 300 robots assemble our Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) here. It is here that we develop our next generation of motor technology.

Function Overview

Our design engineering team is the idea factory of Dyson. It’s where we took the bag out of the vacuum. The blades out of a fan. And the heat out of hand dryers. With free-flowing curiosity and creativity, ideas are never in short supply. The key is deciding which ones could change the world and which should, for now, be shelved. This is done by the New Product Innovation team, who pass on the best ideas to New Product Development. Sketching, prototyping, testing, failing and refining follow. It can take months, even years. But those ideas that make it are big – the kind that transform markets.

Accountabilities

  • Manage technical risk (Aerodynamics and Thermal) in projects. Work within a project team to deliver new products.

  • Drive designs forward and ensure correct decisions are made at all stages of the design process through experimental validation and other relevant analysis methods

  • Provide and co-ordinate analytical support to new and existing products.

  • Deliver concise accurate results - these maybe as a result of a computational simulation, a hand calculation or an experimental test.

  • Analyze test results, summarize and communicate to other members of RDD including senior mangers and directors.

  • Liaise with development teams to ensure an effective transfer of technology into our product range.

  • Provide production support to Operations team.

  • Promote best practice in Aerodynamics and Thermal design

  • Identify and develop new opportunities/tools/methods with the aim of enhancing the performance, reliability and time to market of Dyson products.

Skills

  • At least a Bachelor degree in aeronautical/mechanical engineering or equivalent, preferred applicants have a Master degree.

  • Two years of experience in mechanical product design & development. .

  • A good working knowledge of fundamental aerodynamics, and thermodynamics. Experience with hands-on testing is (eg. wind-tunnel, thermal measurement) preferred.

  • A good understanding of the principles and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Experience with commercial CFD software package (eg. ANSYS Fluent) is essential.

  • Competence in the use and application of CAD/CAE tools in general but specifically the UG, SOLIDWORKS and ANSYS suite of products.

  • Experience in hardware and software for measurement and data acquisition (e.g. National Instruments  modules, MATLAB, Labview etc.) is preferred.

  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and especially oral at a technical level.

  • Initiative and be proactivity: Able to pre-empt problems and seize opportunities without waiting to be told.

  • Drive for results: Focuses on expedient delivery, to the right level of resolution and quality.
