Market Overview

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, the Dyson HQ campus can be found in secluded countryside that helps keep our secrets secret. Having doubled in size in 2016, the campus is now home to new research and development facilities, a new restaurant (home to an English Electric Lightning jet) and a sports facility catering to all Dyson people. Nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).

The building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Over 2,500 people, including James himself, spend their days there strategizing, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world.

Function Overview

Research, Design and Development is Dyson's engine room, and it's growing rapidly. Our engineers challenge convention, build, test, fail, refine, and then fail again - all to invent technology that solves problems that others ignore. To be different takes courage as well as creativity. Based at our new high technology campus in Malmesbury, you’ll be part of a 1,700-strong global team of engineers and scientists. From day one you’ll be working on top secret projects using cutting edge equipment. Whichever area you join we’ll support your development, helping you understand Dyson and grow into the role. The rest is up to you; a chance to help shape the next generation of Dyson technology.


All of our engineers will be required to:

  • Develop technical solutions for new & existing product streams for large volume manufacture.
  • Create & manage requirements / specifications.
  • Verify & validate solutions against requirements.
  • Pro-actively adopt good quality engineering practices within the Dyson framework.
  • Work in a dynamic environment across multiple technical areas with changing scope and priorities.

Depending on your area of expertise (hardware, software or systems) other accountabilities may include:

  • Circuit design, analysis and documentation.
  • Data capture, data analysis, and modelling of complex consumer products.
  • Algorithm selection, optimisation, and calibration.
  • Software design, implementation, testing and integration in the embedded, app and server domains.
  • Developing systems requirements, architectures, and behaviours with key stakeholders.
  • Building and testing prototype electronics

We’ll support you with a full induction programme, learning about Dyson's global business, meeting senior stakeholders and networking with your new colleagues. Technical induction follows to provide understanding of processes, technologies and safety; setting you up to contribute fully in your role. Beyond this you’ll be supported by an ongoing development programme making sure you have a breadth of exposure – to our Engineering departments and Dyson as a whole.


You'll need to have (or be expecting) a 2:2 or higher in one of the following disciplines: electrical or electronic engineering, software engineering, computer science or robotics.

You'll also need to be highly motivated, methodical and flexible to take on exciting challenges with a pragmatic approach.
