This a superb opportunity to lead our Global Privacy function across Dyson.

Market Overview:

Dyson HQ is home to over 3,500 people who work across a medley of engineering and commercial functions. The award-winning campus has three cafes, a sports centre and a number of engineering icons including our Harrier and Lightning jets – one of which hangs from the ceiling of our café. Based in Malmesbury, the campus is within easy reach of both the Cotswolds and cities like Bath and Bristol along the M4 corridor.

Function Overview:

Dyson learnt an early lesson in the value of legal might, winning a gruelling battle against Hoover when it infringed our early cyclone technology patents. Our in-house legal teams have been at the forefront of Dyson ever since. From the information security experts and IP teams doggedly protecting our ideas. To the commercial lawyers and procurement specialists who solve our toughest business challenges across the world.  

Accountabilities:

  • Lead a global privacy team based across geographic locations
  • Lead on data protection and global privacy compliance program 
  • Develop global privacy standards in collaboration with the DPO
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert, providing prompt, professional advice to colleagues where necessary
  • Responsible for setting and implementing all aspects of the data protection compliance strategy and program
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable data protection and privacy legislation
  • Promote and encourage a culture of data privacy across the organization – build ‘hearts and minds’ by leading on communication, awareness and training
  • Implement Dyson Personal Data Protection Policy (including guidance on the policy) including, as appropriate, developing and implementing market specific derogations on policies, procedures and associate documentation, in order to establish a data privacy and protection framework
  • Pro-actively conduct data protection impact assessments 
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Dyson, including providing SME support to day-to-day queries and negotiations on data protection contract clauses with suppliers and customers
  • Lead on BAU activities and act as point of escalation for all internal escalations
  • Manage timely, appropriate and professional responses to data subject rights requests and complaints
  • Implement and maintain privacy by design across the business
  • Review and maintain data processing records (Art 30. GDPR)

Skills:

We are looking for you to have lead a large, global team before (in the region of 15-20 specialists) coupled with previous experience within a legal, compliance or data protection role and have developed a sound working knowledge of privacy compliance requirements in the key territories in which Dyson operates.

You will have expert knowledge of the GDPR and ideally demonstrated with an appropriate qualification (e.g. CIPP/E or CIPP/M). A prior exposure to business-change projects, either in a coordinating or supporting capacity would be ideal.
