IT Infrastructure Engineer

The candidate will take part in projects which include the implementation of infrastructure projects across the network, servers and virtualization domains. Additionally, this role will be involved in the day to day infrastructure operations including the support of all storage, servers, networking and communication platforms across the region.

Market Overview

In 2000, Dyson moved production from Malmesbury to Malaysia to be closer to our supply chains and open up international growth. The small team of 10 has now grown to almost 1,200 – forming Dyson’s second biggest global hub. Located in the exhilarating industrial heart of Johor, it’s also home to RDD, IT, operations,  finance, creative and HR.
The RDD facility is central to our plans to launch 100 new machines in the next four years. To meet these ambitions, we recently expanded the site to 30,000m², with 50 advanced technology labs and 700 new engineers. In the Dyson world, there’s no more exciting place to be.

Function Overview

Main Accountabilities and Supporting Activities:


The candidate’s responsibility will include providing technical expertise to support the IT infrastructure environment across the South-East Asia offices. This will include Active Directory Domains, Exchange email systems, HP Servers running Windows 2012, VMWare virtualization platform and network infrastructure (WANs, LANs and WLANs) as well as 2nd and 3rd line support to the Service Delivery team.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Support of Dyson Infrastructure solutions.

  • Involvement with core infrastructure upgrade projects (such as network upgrades, server builds, office setups).

  • Participation in the process and documentation improvement projects scheduled.

Daily Operations

  • Provision of Infrastructure daily support activities, including:

  • Backup and Restore of systems and files using Commvault

  • Proactive monitoring of Networking, Telephony, Server hardware and Operating Systems

  • Maintaining the data centre environment


  • Provide technical assistance and problem determination of the core technologies utilized within the organization including but not limited to:

    • Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems and Applications

    • Microsoft Exchange Server and VMWare platform

    • Provision of second and third line support for the Dyson IT Service Desk.

    • Occasional After Hours and weekend support is required

Systems Administration

  • Provide system administration for:

    • Dyson Group Microsoft Active Directory

    • Microsoft Exchange Server

    • Virtualization Platform

    • Server Room and Data Centre monitoring systems


  • Participate in, and at times lead Infrastructure based projects to implement new systems and technologies.

  • Involvement with implementations by 3rd parties, from initial supplier selection, through commercial agreement until final project completion.


  • Participate in projects to improve systems, processes and service delivery quality within the team, department and wider business.

  • Liaise and if required escalate with team to provide knowledge transfer to ensure a consistent level of systems understanding is achieved.

  • Publish, improve and manage internal I.T. documentation.


Experience and Education Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience working in an infrastructure delivery and support role.

  • Degree in IT / Computing

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 / 2012:

    • Bare Metal Builds (Essential)

    • WINS / DNS / DHCP (Essential)

    • Domain Model (Essential)

    • Login Scripts (Desirable)

    • Support (Essential)

  • Microsoft Exchange

    • Maintenance  (Essential)

    • Fault Finding (Essential)

  • VMware VCenter

    • Creation of guest builds

    • Virtual System Centre

    • High Availability

  • Experience in Server Room Operations and server room monitoring systems

  • Experience in Solarwinds network monitoring systems  

  • Understanding of the following Networking technologies:

    • TCP/IP:

      • LAN Addressing

      • Public IP routing

    • Switches / Routers

      • Basic Cisco commands and configuration of switches

    • Firewalls

      • McAfee Enterprise Firewall Experience

    • WAN

      • Supporting MPLS circuits


  • Strong hardware experience, including:

    • Configuration of HP Servers (Essential)

    • SAN/NAS Experience

    • Exposure to VOIP Solutions

Exposure to Cloud Technologies (eg. AWS, Azure)

  6. Ability to travel within Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and the United Kingdom.
