Description

This is a  great opportunity for a Commercial Contracts Lawyer to be part of an active and engaged team committed to enabling Dyson’s continued commercial success.

Market Overview

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).

Function Overview

Dyson learnt an early lesson in the value of legal might, winning a gruelling battle against Hoover when it infringed our early cyclone technology patents. Our in-house legal teams have been at the forefront of Dyson ever since. From the information security experts and IP teams doggedly protecting our ideas. To the commercial lawyers and procurement specialists who solve our toughest business challenges across the world.

Accountabilities

We require an experienced lawyer to provide the following legal services:

  • providing support on legal issues across the business (including IT, commercial, marketing, sales and the Research, Design and Development area), with a particular emphasis on procurement;

  • drafting and negotiating contracts with suppliers and customers;

  • supporting tender processes across the business, particularly in IT and on capital equipment projects;

  • reviewing marketing claims for print and television to analyse the risk of legal challenge, including assessing scientific evidence for the support of claims;

  • handling UK and European advertising disputes (for and against the business); and

  • providing advice and support on consumer related issues and regulatory matters.

Skills

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a commercial role. In-house exposure during or post training is a definite advantage. The ideal candidate will:

  • have a solid background in commercial law and an ability to apply that knowledge in a practical and pragmatic way;

  • have strong drafting skills and extensive experience of contract negotiation;

  • have good awareness of the role of the legal function in a large business and have the ability to contribute actively in the taking of key business decisions;

  • have an appetite to learn new skills and the versatility and technical ability to deal with issues outside of their experience and learn quickly on the job;

  • be able to work with a minimum level of supervision in a fast paced, constantly changing but supportive environment;

  • have experience or interest in design and engineering and an aptitude to learn to understand technical discussions;

Benefits Overview

Dyson monitors the market to ensure competitive salaries and pension contributions. Beyond that, you’ll also enjoy a profit-related bonus, generous leave and life insurance. But financial benefits are only the start of a Dyson career. Rapid professional growth, leadership development and new opportunities abound, driven by regular reviews and dynamic workshops. And with a vibrant culture, flexible working hours, the latest devices and a relaxed dress code reflecting our engineering spirit, it’s an exciting team environment geared to creativity, innovation and ambition.
