Dyson is a growing company. We are seeking an experienced and business-minded Legal Counsel to join the team. The role will be based at Dyson’s offices in Singapore.

Market Overview:

Our Singapore story began in 2004 and today we have more than 1000 people working here. At the beginning of 2017 we opened our new, state of the art, Singapore Technology Centre in Science Park I, minutes from Singapore’s technology and start-up community. This new Technology Centre houses some of Dyson’s most advanced facilities including Robotics and Sensors laboratories and Smart Home, Connectivity & Mobile Applications laboratories as well as an Advanced Control Tower with the latest technology to develop its analytics-driven activities.

Not too far away is West Park, our flagship advanced motor manufacturing facility where we develop our autonomous robotic manufacturing capabilities – more than 300 robots assemble our Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) here. It is here that we develop our next generation of motor technology.

Function Overview:

Dyson learnt an early lesson in the value of legal might, winning a gruelling battle against Hoover when it infringed our early cyclone technology patents. Our in-house legal teams have been at the forefront of Dyson ever since. From the information security experts and IP teams doggedly protecting our ideas. To the commercial lawyers and procurement specialists who solve our toughest business challenges across the world.

The Dyson Legal Asia Operations Department provides legal support to all Dyson operations, R&D and support functions in Asia.  Headed by the General Counsel, Global Operations, who reports to the Group General Counsel, the Department takes a holistic approach to providing timely counsel and solutions to legal issues. 

Accountabilities:

Working within the Asia Operations Team in the role of Legal Counsel – Asia Operations or Lead Legal Counsel – Asia Operations your day to day duties will involve:
  • Supporting on commercial and contract issues across the business, helping to navigate complex issues with an output and delivery focus
  • Building strong relationships with relevant functions, including Procurement, Commercial, RDD and Finance drafting and negotiating contracts with third parties
  • Assisting with contract disputes with third parties
  • Proactively identifying opportunities for growth, leveraging best practice and insight from within the legal environment
  • Providing input into contract control processes
  • Providing input into risk areas and supporting the Asia Operations legal team with the development and delivery of risk mitigation solutions and the delivery of the relevant areas of the Global Operations team plan
  • Supporting with the review and maintenance of precedent documents 
  • Supporting with the delivery of relevant legal training programmes
  • Maintaining an up to date and comprehensive knowledge of developments in your areas of law, and supporting with the dissemination of the information to peers and the business accordingly
  • Collaborating with other members of the legal team and the business to devise efficient strategies for the provision of legal services that are fit for future growth and match our blueprint for success
  • Working closely with the legal team in the UK to ensure a seamless and efficient provision of services to the client base
  • Instructing and effectively managing external counsel where necessary 

Skills:

  • A sound understanding of all aspects of commercial law and an ability to apply that knowledge pragmatically in a business environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of managing matters with a cross border and foreign jurisdiction element, and managing external legal counsel.
  • Good awareness of the role of Legal in business decisions and the ability to actively contribute in the taking of those decisions.
  • Comfort with autonomy and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Confidence and technical ability to be able to deal with issues outside your experience and the ability to learn quickly on the job.
  • Highly adept at managing change, expansion and project management.
  • Evidence of being a self-starter who is good at identifying problems and proactively remedying them, and who demonstrates professionalism, pride and integrity in all aspects of your work.
  • An ability to work successfully with a minimum level of supervision in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
