As a Legal Intern, you’ll gain exposure to the local Legal complexities of a Global technology company operating in China. Working with us 4-days a week, you’ll be hands on, providing essential administrative & PA support to the Lead Legal Counsel and Dyson China Legal Team based in Shanghai. Success in your internship with us could leave to a full time Graduate opportunity upon completion.  




Market Overview

Dyson has made a major strategic expansion into Asia. China is our main focus market for future growth, delivering a turnover of RMB2billion within 4 years. At the heart of the Asia expansion is the decision to create a strong Dyson team on the ground in Shanghai, where this role will be based. The team is currently 300+ people.



Function Overview

The Dyson Legal Department in Asia Pacific provides legal support to all businesses and functions in a geographical area which comprises the Asia and ANZ regions. Led by the Asia Pacific Legal Director, who reports to the Dyson General Counsel, the Department takes a holistic approach to providing timely counsel and solutions to legal and compliance issues. Due to the rapid expansion of Dyson in mainland China, there is an intern opportunity to support the Senior Legal Counsel, China and Lead Legal Counsel, China and Dyson China Legal in with essential administrative legal work.

In this role specifically you can expect to experience the following:


 


Managing routine administration


  • Ensure all necessary paperwork is ready for meetings.

  • Conduct research, assemble and analyse data in order to make team stay abreast of industry developments and regulation changes.

  • Manage follow up of action points from internal and external meetings.

  • Establish and maintain the vendor database.

  • Complete expenses each month as required.

  • Manage mailing of items by courier and post from the Dyson offices.

     

    Performing a Paralegal role

  • Asist Lead legal counsels in development of standard contracts, guide internal clients on applicability of templates and provide legal opinions on amendments to NDAs and simple contracts assigned by legal counsels;

  • Establish and implement procedure for preservation, collection, review, numbering and sign-off of contracts and legal documents consistent with applicable legal requirements;

  • Manage contract records through each single contract life cycle and ensure contract close-out, extension or renewal;

  • Provide litigation and authority support to lead legal counsel;

  • Stay abreast of industry developments and regulatory changes, design and circulate the internal newsletters to improve awareness of internal clients;

  • Render comprehensive legal support as directed by team members. Such supports include matters relating to translation, public/legal search and any other matters not specifically mentioned but delegated by Senior Legal Counsel, China and Lead Legal Counsel, China.






Skills

  • You must be available to intern 4-days a week, and if demonstrating the right development and skills during the internship there may be the opportunity for a full-time job after graduation
  • You’ll be part of a larger team so must be able to work with others but be equally as comfortable working independently; managing your own time and project deliverables.  

  • Stakeholders are diverse – internal and external; senior management, technical specialists or other Graduates and Interns potentially. They could be based locally or further afield in one of our other 20+ offices so you must be able to build relationships quickly and develop your personal networks

  • Working in a Global business you will need to be fluent in both Mandarin and English, both spoken and written, and any additional languages would be a bonus

  • You will be in your final year of studying Law, available to commit to at least 4-days a week for the duration of the internship.   

  • We are an innovative technology company, making a broad range of product and so an understanding of what we do, and what makes us different, is advantageous

  • In this role you will specifically need an insight into the role of an in-house legal function, and an understanding as to why you wish for a career in this area.

  • Excellent Microsoft office and Outlook skills are essential
