As a Graduate PR Executive, you’ll be a natural story-teller who can show how Dyson technology is developed, what makes it better, and why it works differently – conveying Dyson’s bold ambitions and engineering philosophy in the process. You’ll help launch new technology across the world by talking to journalists, bloggers and influencers on a regular basis and forming lasting relationships.  




Market Overview


Dyson has made a major strategic expansion into Asia. China is our main focus market for future growth, delivering a turnover of RMB2billion within 4 years. At the heart of the Asia expansion is the decision to create a strong Dyson team on the ground in Shanghai, where this role will be based. The team is currently 300+ people.


Within Dyson Shanghai, we are focusing more than ever on developing a best in class communications team, to ensure we build broader Dyson awareness across China, educate on our technology, and convert through a continuous stream of product reviews and recommendations.

Function Overview

The China Communications team is responsible for Public Relations (including both media and KOLs), Corporate and Social Responsibility, and Internal Communications. We manage Dyson’s image and reputation. We communicate regionally and nationally about our technology, our approach, about what we do. It’s varied, challenging, and stretching.  Of course there are some basics to cover, but in the long term, it’s as big as you make it.


Accountabilities

Our graduates work in real jobs, so are given real responsibility from Day one. To help you understand Dyson and set you up for success in your role you can expect a through Induction when you start and a personal Programme of Development for the first 2-3 years. This will equip you with the professional skills needed for a long term career at Dyson.

 

In this role specifically you can expect to be doing the following:

-          Read the news, make it, and shape it

-          Help launch new technology across the world

-          Talk to journalists, bloggers, influencers about Dyson and our technology

-          Support our international colleagues in doing the same

-          Organise company-wide events

-          Write well about technology, the economy, government policy and about us

-          Manage projects

-          Perform the odd magic trick and learn from a few mistakes you’ll make along the way

 

You’ll be supporting PR Managers to deliver across the following areas:

Press relations & influencer relations

  • Support PR team media opportunities, helping to pull together necessary media kits and content as required

  • Source and dispatch media product review samples, fulfil media requests in a timely, deadline-sensitive manner.

  • Manage a list of seeding locations. Manage the maintenance program of all products placed in locations around China and provide replacement parts and filters to machines as required.

 

Content creation

  • Produce China specific content in the form of press releases, interviews, Q&As, online content, event materials, etc.

  • Create and develop news stories to secure further press coverage

 

Administration and analytics

  • Monitor and report competitor activity and relevant industry trends, events and opportunities to appropriate teams

  • Handle PR admin including building and maintaining media lists, collating coverage, managing resources such as keeping files and templates in order

  • Complete monthly coverage reports and post-campaign reports for all major launches.

  • Monitor, analyse and report PR results

  • Provide loose translation to members of exec team on PR content and activity.

 

Financial

  • Support execution of all finance related activity, updating trackers and organizing payment to suppliers.

  • Updating trackers on spend, helping to ensure that we operate in line with the budget plans

 

Event planning and management - Supporting executional aspects of media events from start to finish. Responsibilities include:

  • Biographies and compiling media kits

  • Preparing event location and props.

 

Skills

  • For this role, evidence of interest in PR or other media internships will help but is not essential
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced office where priorities can change would is desired

  • Working in a Global business you will need to be fluent in both Mandarin and English, both spoken and written, and any additional languages would be a bonus

  • You will have recently Graduated/be graduating from University with at least a Bachelor’s degree, but possibly a Masters level. We are open to the subject of study, but you need have strong writing skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • You’ll be part of a larger team so must be able to work with others but be equally as comfortable working independently; managing your own time and project deliverables. 

  • Stakeholders are diverse – internal and external; senior management, technical specialists or other Graduates potentially. They could be based locally or further afield in one of our other 80 offices so you must be able to build relationships quickly and develop your personal networks

  • We are an innovative technology company, making a broad range of product and so an understanding of what we do, and what makes us different, is advantageous

  • Excellent Microsoft office and Outlook skills are essential
