Principal Process Development Engineer – Energy Storage



There is a requirement for a senior engineer to join the process development team to further develop the processes required to progress technology established in research through to pilot scale manufacture. This role is to become part of the team that is going to succeed in overcoming these challenges by using the experience, engineering excellence, clear thinking as well as innovative designs to keep the company at the leading edge of this technology.

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology). A confident dynamic engineer with significant experience working in either solar, electronics, materials development, OLED, fuel-cell or battery industries.


Essential Experience

• Degree in a scientific or engineering discipline

• Significant experience developing processes or products

• Has engineered a product/idea/process from research through to pilot, and volume manufacture, optimising the process to achieve manufacturing performance, quality, and cost objectives

Desirable Experience

• Post-graduate degree

• Experienced CAD user / designer

• Vacuum (UHV & HV) engineering, assembly, design, maintenance o System layout & sub-assembly design

o Thin Film Deposition

• Design & construction of Pilot-Line equipment

o Batch & continuous processes (Roll to Roll)

o Multi-stage unit operations; timings & work-flow

o Hazardous & complex environments, (e.g. dry / explosive / particulate / vapour)

• Construction of test facilities - Metal working, assembly, design (CAD), electronics

• Data acquisition & Processing – Scientific in understanding but engineering in mind-set.

o Proficient in MS Office including Excel

o Statistical process control – Lean Six Sigma type approaches.

• Battery material development – Anodes/Cathodes/Electrolyte
