Product Solutions Lead Architect




The Product Solutions Lead Architect is a key leadership role within the newly formed Dyson IT Design team and is accountable for the overall design and strategy across the Product based solutions used at Dyson today and in the future.

Market Overview

Our Singapore story began in 2004 and today we have more than 1000 people working here. At the beginning of 2017 we opened our new, state of the art, Singapore Technology Centre in Science Park I, minutes from Singapore’s technology and start-up community. This new Technology Centre houses some of Dyson’s most advanced facilities including Robotics and Sensors laboratories and Smart Home, Connectivity & Mobile Applications laboratories as well as an Advanced Control Tower with the latest technology to develop its analytics-driven activities.

Not too far away is the Singapore Advanced Manufacturing centre, our flagship advanced motor manufacturing facility where we develop our autonomous robotic manufacturing capabilities – more than 300 robots assemble our Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) here. It is here that we develop our next generation of motor technology.

Function Overview

The Dyson Group IT function is a core component of Dysons growing technology business. We are key to ensuring the expansion of Dyson is founded against a backdrop of Industry Standard best practice IT systems. The Design function within Group IT is focused on ensuring the right IT strategy and direction is set to enable that growth


The role will be responsible for leading a team of Solution Architects covering design of Dyson’s core Product based solutions which covers 3 key areas of Supply Chain, Procurement and Product Costing;

The Supply Chain element of the role will focus on;

  • Building upon recent improvements in the SAP supply planning solutions (APO)
  • Looking upstream of the supply planning stage to factor in how demand planning can be better signalled into the supply planning systems  
  • L Looking downstream of the supply planning stage to track the production of that supply and the holding / movement of related inventory into any given market
  • How our systems monitor manufacturing execution and how this will improve in the future
  • How warehouse management is undertaken today and how this will improve in the future

The Procurement element of the role will focus on;

  • Supporting the progression of a procurement system RFP through to implementation 
  • Defining how we implement critical capabilities such as Bid / Tender Management, Contract Management & Supplier Relationship / Performance / Risk Management
  • Defining what master data required for a procurement system
  • Ensuring any new procurement capability is able to integrate into our PLM capabilities (Product Lifecycle Management), costing capabilities or processes and our other ERP capabilities

The Product Costing element of the role will focus on

  • Defining how we best implement critical capabilities such as Cost Estimating, Cost Validation & Cost Reporting
  • Defining how we best undertake analysis like Profitability Analysis & Value Analysis

The role will ultimately require work in the following key areas:

  • Supporting In-Flight Product Solutions based projects (Immediate Term)
    • Supporting the delivery lifecycle with the 4 key stages of Design - Concepting, Solution on a Page, High Level Design & Low Level Design
    • Providing design assurance and oversight throughout the lifecycle of a project
    • Ensuring (where needed) appropriate design governance through a pre-established Design Authority
  • Definition of an overall Product Solutions strategy (Longer Term)
    • Defining a future systems roadmap for change founded in the direction the business is taking
    • Ensuring the architectural direction and decisions of in-flight projects are aligned to that future roadmap for change   
    • Where appropriate creation of Supplier RFI’s and support for RFP’s for any future state solution selection
    • Finally, the role also needs to contribute to / and ensure that the above capabilities fit with the next major design step change for SAP – a move to the SAP HANA platform

The role will require interaction with external teams / contacts outside of IT to include;

•  Working with senior business stakeholders to elicit business plans that drive overall solution design and strategy for the Product Solutions landscape.
•  Working with third parties and partners to understand future trends, innovation and opportunities to build roadmaps for the Products Solutions landscape.

Within IT the role will require the following;
•  Produce detailed design specifications, maintain application portfolios, develop strategies and support business reviews across all landscapes

•  Ensure adherence to the core IT Application Strategy and Design principles
•  Alignment with Technical Architecture design teams to ensure the designs and strategy align to the overall direction of the underlying technical architecture
•  Working with the “Deliver” and “Run” teams to ensure designed solutions move seamlessly into project execution and support

This successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Application Design. The role will require active participation in leading, defining and shaping the way the newly formed Application Design team will operate.


  • A proven track record of enterprise level application design / application architecture is essential]
  • A proven track record of senior level business engagement / stakeholder management is essential
  • With regards to Supply Chain capabilities;
    - General knowledge and experience of large scale business Supply Chain solutions is critical
    - Knowledge of SAP capabilities such as SAP APO and IBP are highly desirable 
    - Knowledge of third party supply chain systems would be beneficial
  •  With regards to Procurement capabilities
    - General knowledge and experience of large scale business procurement solutions is critical
    - Knowledge of procurement capabilities such as SAP Ariba is key.
    - Knowledge of other third party procurement solutions are highly desirable
  • With regards to Product Costing capabilities
    - General knowledge and experience of large scale business Product Costing is critical
    - Knowledge of systems like Facton is highly desirable 
    - Knowledge of any other third party costing solutions is also highly desirable
  • With regards to the wider Core SAP Solution Landscape; 
    - Experience of the general SAP solution landscape is required
    - In particular experience of SAP ECC (Back Office) 
    - Any experience of the SAP HANA or migration to SAP HANA would be beneficial
  • Experience of forming or working within an established and efficient design team is highly desirable
  • A strong grounding in general technical architecture to include hosting (On Premise & Cloud), storage and networks is highly desirable
  • Experience within Enterprise Architecture methodologies (e.g. TOGAF) would be beneficial
  • Experience in supporting project delivery involving both in-house and third-party design, development, testing and project management
  • Understanding of security principles and policies ensuring these are applied to the design of solutions
  • Able to act as a liaison between technical, functional and support functions both on and offshore
  • Able to maintain a working knowledge of new technologies and practises to support further innovation for projects
