Description and Requirements

The Floorcare RDD Project Manager will lead the integration of key RDD functions across a large and established team in the development of new Dyson Floorcare products. The Project Manager (PM) will be the driving force behind the engineering team, ensuring they deliver a product which meets scope and timescales. Working alongside the Design Manager, they will ensure stage-gate deliverables are set and delivered on time, and ensure all key dependencies are identified between departments. The PM will gain a sufficient level of understanding of the development to be able to communicate the projects status to senior management and is confident in challenging the paradigm when required.

Function Overview:

As part of Project Management at Dyson, you will work across all disciplines of design, research, procurement, manufacturing, commercial and marketing to ensure an integrated project delivery aligns to the wider business strategy. Our briefs can often be loose and changeable, so you must be comfortable in a fast moving, ambiguous environment. Skills in managing a dynamic environment will be critical to the role.

Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and communicate project status between the RDD teams to ensure effective and timely input; resolve conflicts and lead solutions 
  • Ensure the team use established Dyson development processes, good engineering practice and discipline to deliver a fully resolved solution to the correct standards 
  • Information management – governance and organisation of project related information.
  • Manage engineering resource demand and allocation activities against current and future projects time plans.
  • Take an active, hands-on role to understand how engineering problems are resolved thoroughly and help coordinate that resolution
  • Challenge concepts in order to achieve the optimum design within the boundaries of time, specification and cost, maintain and manage the risks, actions and issues trackers. 
  • Work with development teams to ensure new technologies maximize the performance of new products

  • Credible; ability to demonstrate a good level of understanding of engineering processes in order to work with design teams throughout the project development cycle

  • To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment 
  • Outstanding project management capabilities, especially estimating and planning, risk management, status reporting and stakeholder management 
  • Ability to form plans from limited information through discussion with multiple sources 
  • Experience forming integrated plans, gaining the support of the cross team and holding the team to account for delivering to that plan 
  • Continuous improvement; proven experience of improving broken or inefficient processes 
  • First/2:1 Degree (design, engineering and manufacturing preferable) or equivalent 
  • Holds formal project management qualifications (at least one of PMP / PRINCE2/Agile) and can bring forward innovative best practice applications that may benefit the project. 
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Project
