The purpose of the role will be to look after the design process from intent drawings through the engineering process (including prototyping) for volume production. The role will also manage a programme of production for retail fixtures and fittings. As an interface between Design, Procurement and Marketing this role will appreciate different perspectives and propose balanced solutions that meet the wider needs of the business.

Market Overview

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).

The building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Over 2,000 people, including James himself, spend their days strategising, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world.

Function Overview

Armed with scientifically-proven product superiority and precision-engineered technology, our retail team have plenty to work with. They develop global retail strategy, bespoke displays for trusted retailers and global launch campaigns for new technology. When working in such a changing industry, you have to be a multitasking generalist – skilled at managing communications through words, image and 3D design as well pioneering new strategies to make Dyson’s technology shine above the competition. They don’t take the obvious route, striving to create new experiences, both in-store and online, which show off Dyson technology at its best.

You will be an excellent communicator able to deliver the design intent of our Retail Design Team to all our suppliers and manage vendor feedback on proposed design developments.

Technically you will be able to review prototypes for function, quality and adherence to drawings.  We need someone to be able to offer advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on manufacturing sustainability.

This role will also involve creating cost packages, reviewing and negotiating pricing.

You have solid experience in a design/engineering/production role focused on retail environments and point of sale equipment.  With acute attention to detail you will enjoy seeing designs come to life, and take great interest in the manufacturing process.

An understanding in how good design leads to good quality and good value.  You don’t compromise on design but you seek smarter ways to do things.

You will have built a good instinct for costs to aid early estimations, and you’ve undertaken commercial analysis of existing programs to identify targets for future savings.

Benefits Overview

Dyson monitors the market to ensure competitive salaries and pension contributions. Beyond that, you’ll also enjoy a profit-related bonus, generous leave and life insurance. But financial benefits are only the start of a Dyson career. Rapid professional growth, leadership development and new opportunities abound, driven by regular reviews and dynamic workshops. And with a vibrant culture, flexible working hours, the latest devices and a relaxed dress code reflecting our engineering spirit, it’s an exciting team environment geared to creativity, innovation and ambition.
