Description and Requirements

Dyson offers a unique opportunity for a talented and experienced Senior Research Engineer to be part of Dyson's operations at Sakti3; based in Ann Arbor, MI, USA.

Market Overview:

For the past five years, Dyson’s in-house battery team has been optimizing and developing battery technology for cordless machines, and robots in its advanced battery labs at its Malmesbury headquarters. Sakti3 is a research forefront of Dyson’s efforts in developing solid state batteries that are safer, more reliable and longer-lasting with higher energy density, for Dyson’s new and existing technologies.

Function Overview:

This position is responsible for leading materials characterization activities to contribute to development of solid state batteries.

Accountabilities:

Some of the main duties of this position include the following:

  • Perform measurement of films and devices
  • Coordinate with process and battery testing teams
  • Develop and implement new sample preparation and analysis methods
  • Organize and manage several characterization equipment
  • Train other employees 
  • Such other comparable duties as may be required by the VP of Process Development

Skills:

  • A Ph.D. degree in electrochemistry or solid state chemistry or related field
  • Strong background in materials characterization of thin films
  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating characterization instruments including SEM, XPS, and XRD 
  • Deep understanding of thin film device with the ability to propose and demonstrate novel solutions 
  • Is able to design and execute experiments, and analyse data
  • Is able to confidently and competently communicate complex issues to varying levels of audiences in an effective manner both verbally and in writing 
  • Has the ability and flexibility to work effectively in an evolving environment as well as able to react positively and adapt to challenging situations 
  • Willing to think outside of the box and challenge the norm with a realistic approach 
  • Is responsible and accountable for their work 
  • Has the resilience to overcome obstacles and manage difficult situations
