Senior Electrical Safety Tester
£28,000 - 30,000 +27 days holiday plus bank holidays +bonus + gym on site
Responsible for executing all electrical safety and portable appliance testing (PAT) in accordance with Dyson electrical safety testing procedure, HSE legalisation/guidance and under the guidance of the Health & Safety Co-Ordinator (Electrical), throughout Dyson’s UK sites. This will span a variety of property types and locations, but will focus predominantly on the UK headquarters at Malmesbury. We anticipate that this role will focus mainly on the RDD side of the business; however there may be a requirement for the wider Dyson Group.
Dyson, whether at the headquarters in Malmesbury or globally, is growing at a rapid pace, and the estates team need to not only anticipate this growth, but also ensure that both new and existing properties are set up, operated and maintained to the expected standard. To create this positive and progressive working environment the estates team needs expertise in key areas – Health & Safety within the Estates Management function is one of these areas.
To act as the authorising authority and ensure all electrical work on Rigs, Tests, Experiments and Prototypes is undertaken in a safe and efficient manner.
To monitor the quality and safety standards of all electrical work undertaken in the RDD Labs.
To advise on design and schematics and ensure they comply with industry standards.
Support all RDD Area Owners with preparation of, review and approval of risk assessments.
Working closely with the wider Electrical Safety Team to ensure electrical safety is paramount prior to commencement of testing.
Undertake lab inspections with the Health & Safety Co-Ordinator (Electrical) to ensure safe working practices are being followed, electrical items have current PAT tests and rigs/tests/experiments and prototypes have signed risk assessments.
Ensure electrical test equipment used by the Electrical Safety Team is calibrated and suitable for the task.
To remain current on regulations for the IEE code of practice covering service inspections and testing of electrical equipment.
To establish and run training for other members of the Electrical Safety Team to ensure continuity of testing practices.
Qualifications; Formal electrical qualification or time served apprenticeship.
Experience in testing experimental items containing electrical components.
Knowledge of digital and analogue electronics would be an advantage.
Good communicator; ability to convey electrical safety issues concisely and accurately.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build productive working relationships and influence.
Good analytical skills; to be able to assess problems thoroughly and drive logical conclusions.
Confident; comfortable with interacting with senior executives where necessary.
Credible; ability to demonstrate a level of expertise in the electrical field in order to gain stakeholder confidence.
Assertive; prepared to take action where required.
Ability to deliver training in a clear and concise manner with confidence.
Good IT skills - proficiency with Microsoft package software.
Willingness to show initiative.
