Dyson is a growing company. We are seeking an experienced and business-minded Lead Legal Counsel to join the team. The role will be based at Dyson’s offices in Singapore.

Market Overview

Our Singapore story began in 2004 and today we have more than 1000 people working here. At the beginning of 2017 we opened our new, state of the art, Singapore Technology Centre in Science Park I, minutes from Singapore’s technology and start-up community. This new Technology Centre houses some of Dyson’s most advanced facilities including Robotics and Sensors laboratories and Smart Home, Connectivity & Mobile Applications laboratories as well as an Advanced Control Tower with the latest technology to develop its analytics-driven activities.

Not too far away is West Park, our flagship advanced motor manufacturing facility where we develop our autonomous robotic manufacturing capabilities – more than 300 robots assemble our Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) here. It is here that we develop our next generation of motor technology.                           

Function Overview

Dyson learnt an early lesson in the value of legal might, winning a gruelling battle against Hoover when it infringed our early cyclone technology patents. Our in-house legal teams have been at the forefront of Dyson ever since. From the information security experts and IP teams doggedly protecting our ideas. To the commercial lawyers and procurement specialists who solve our toughest business challenges across the world.

The Dyson Legal Asia Operations Department provides legal support to all Dyson operations, R&D and support functions in Asia.  Headed by the General Counsel, Asia Operations, who reports to the Group General Counsel, the Department takes a holistic approach to providing timely counsel and solutions to legal and compliance issues. 


Main Responsibilities:

Reporting to the General Counsel, Asia Operations, this role’s responsibilities would include providing the following across Asia, starting with three countries, namely Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore:

(a)          supporting the day to day operations of the business including:

(i)            providing timely practical legal advice and support;

(ii)           identifying risks and working with the business to develop risk mitigation solutions;

(iii)          drafting and negotiating contracts with customers, third party manufacturers, suppliers and all other third parties;

(b)          conduct investigations;

(c)           supporting major tenders and contracts across the business;

(d)          providing legal and compliance training to the business and functional teams;

(e)          leading and handling until settlement all commercial disputes involving the business (including litigation and ADRs) and managing appointed external counsel (where necessary);

(f)           supporting HR on the handling and resolution of employee issues including conduct of disciplinary hearing and any subsequent industrial tribunal hearings;

(g)          updating relevant company policies and ensuring compliance (including supporting any relevant training and investigations);

(h)          supporting the corporate IP team in securing and enforcing IP rights, including negotiation of research and development agreements, including identifying and reporting potential breach of the company’s IP rights;

(i)            reviewing, creating and updating legal precedents, procedures and processes;



Essential experience:

A qualified commercial lawyer who:

(a)          has 10-15 years post qualification experience and is a qualified Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore;

(b)          at least 5 years’ experience in-house in an MNC (preferably an FMCG company);

(c)           has strong experience in product liability issues and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilities)

(d)          has substantial experience in investigations work

(e)          has a strong work ethic, positive attitude and the highest integrity;

(f)           has a solid commercial law understanding and an ability to apply that knowledge in a practical way;

(g)          has a good awareness of the role of the Legal department in business decisions and has the ability to actively contribute in the taking of those decisions;

(h)          is a self-starter who is good at identifying issues and proactively remedying them;

(i)            can work with a minimum level of supervision in a fast paced environment;

(j)            has the ability to interact with all levels in the business up to and including director level; and

(k)           when necessary, is willing to travel extensively in the region and to the UK.
