PCB Engineer




The successful candidate will drive and manage PCB design activity within a specific development group within Dyson. This requirement is not just for an experienced designer, but someone able to self-manage and motivate; managing their own time in order to meet the challenges placed upon them by the project group they will support. Furthermore, team lead skills are essential as this may become part of the growing roles and responsibilities of the successful candidate.

This is a demanding role, and the ideal candidate will bring a diverse breadth of PCB design experience, coupled with good problem solving skills, communication, team leading and team work:


  • Design organisation:

    • Liaise with project team to help generate a suitable specification for each design.

    • Help identify the best PCB technologies and practices to suit the requirements of each project

    • Ensure correct design procedures and practices are applied

    • Proactive approach to design project management and timescales

  • Design:

    • Design PCBs (including single sided, double sided & multilayer)

    • Design for high volume, applying an embedded DFM approach

    • Design for mains voltage, ensuring design compliance to safety requirements

    • Constraint management

    • Design validation, peer checking and design reviewing.

    • Output generation

    • Help maintain & update schematic database

  • Associated Tasks:

    • Design of Symbols, Footprints and parts for the ECAD Library

    • 3D modelling of components and assemblies

  • Other Requirements:

    • Promoting consistent working practices & process adherence as part of a global team approach

    • Provide PCB technical support to reviews and meetings as required


  • Skills Knowledge & Experience. Candidate must have some of the  proficiencies listed below:

    • Experience of Mentor Graphics Xpedition Enterprise tools

    • Experience of Valor tools

    • PCB Design:

      • Design for Manufacture

      • Mains potential voltage

      • Knowledge of Creepage & Clearance design requirements

      • Current carrying up to 40A

      • Thermal management

      • Design for EMC
