Dyson offers a unique opportunity for an experienced Senior Process Development Technician in the Motors, Power and Electronic Systems Research Team, within Dyson’s Research, Design and Development (RDD) department; based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, U.K.

Function Overview:

Accountabilities:

• Build precision prototype motors and sub-assemblies following defined processes to give repeatable and reproducible results • Assist in developing the capability of the Motors Research Build and Test Laboratories • Perform motor validation and acoustic tests, focusing on a thorough and consistent approach • Use precision measurement equipment to accurately record critical build and test data • Participate in gauge R&R studies • Design and manufacture high quality assembly fixtures using workshop machinery as required • Build test rigs including basic electrical wiring, compressed air and fire traces to pre-defined schematics • Carry out testing on prototype motors following documented processes • Support others in preparing and implementing motors into testing facilities • Act as lab owner for motor build / test labs - adhere to safe working practices and lab rules • Proactively seek to identify and implement as appropriate continuous improvement practices

Skills:

Minimum technical experience and knowledge: • Ability to use 3D computer aided design (CAD) software packages • Ability to create, interpret and interrogate engineering drawings and documentation • Experience of complex / skilled assembly or maintenance work • Practical and methodical approach to problem solving with a keen focus on attention to detail • Excellent verbal and written communication to convey information in an appropriate and concise manner. • Have a flexible attitude, being happy to adapt to changing priorities • Display a basic competence in MS Word and Excel • Experience in automated assembly techniques • An ability to demonstrate a thorough approach to reasoning and problem solving • An ability to work in both a cross-functional team environment and independently • Demonstrate strong motivation to get the job done Desirable experience: • Appreciation of relevant motor technology or high speed rotating machinery • Assembly supplier selection. • CNC Programming / machining capability Essential behavioural skills: • Good analytical ability and attention to detail • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format • Ability to adapt or generate imaginative and innovative ideas, in line with core Dyson values that would result in great Dyson products • To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment in an organised manner • Excellent team working skills.
