Senior Structural Analysis Engineer

To provide analytical insight and direction based on sound structural, mechanical and physical interpretation of data and resolution of problems faced by our design team.

You will be able to prove you have the ability to drive designs forward based on sound engineering knowledge and to ensure correct decisions are taken at all stages of the design process.

Working within a small team of likeminded engineering problem solvers you will be responsible for the application of fundamental physical theories and pragmatic methods to provide mechanical understanding and insight, ultimately providing brilliant products to the business.

Market Overview

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology). The building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Over 1,500 people, including James himself, spend their days strategizing, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world. From 2016, our HQ will begin doubling its footprint with an ambitious new expansion.

Function Overview

Sometimes, making a technological leap forward means going back to the beginning. Since 1999, we’ve spent £150m building a motor from scratch – small, light and efficient, yet extremely powerful. Our motors are what enable our technology to be different – it’s why they’re protected by 20 to 30 patents. But the next generation demands new directions. Energy storage, robotics, nanotechnology and space-age materials. So our multi-disciplinary team, led by some of the world’s best power electronics engineers, knows that only the most pioneering thinking will do. That’s the Dyson way.

Delivery of concise accurate results - these maybe as a result of a computational simulation, a hand calculation or an experimental test.

Articulating results either in report form or as a presentation is an important part of this role as your work will be steering designs and informing cross functional decisions within the team. The work is principally based around assessing the structural integrity of parts but also manufacturability (DFM) and injection moulding part science using predictive methods are integral to the role.

  • A first degree in mechanical engineering BEng. MEng. A PhD would be desirable but not essential.

  • Experience in an engineering company or consultancy.

  • Demonstrable competence in the use and application of CAD & CAE tools in general but specifically the ANSYS, MoldFlow and NX suite of products.

  • Knowledge and experience of coupled physics analysis, especially in the solution of thermo-mechanical problems is desirable.

  • A highly driven individual who strives for accurate results in every aspect of your work.

  • The proven ability to work as part of a team or un-supervised to an agreed goal or set of deliverables is imperative.

  • A clear logical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.

Benefits Overview

Dyson monitors the market to ensure competitive salaries and pension contributions. Beyond that, you’ll also enjoy a profit-related bonus, generous leave and life insurance. But financial benefits are only the start of a Dyson career. Rapid professional growth, leadership development and new opportunities abound, driven by regular reviews and dynamic workshops. And with a vibrant culture, flexible working hours, the latest devices and a relaxed dress code reflecting our engineering spirit, it’s an exciting team environment geared to creativity, innovation and ambition.
