Dyson is all about pushing boundaries and getting the very best from all the technology that it uses. Working with existing test & measurement equipment whilst also developing new methods of collating data, instrumentation is to be applied to a variety of innovative and elaborate test rigs. Results from the subsequent tests are to be analysed and presented in form suitable for a wide range of audiences, potentially including but not limited to James Dyson and then fed back to positively drive the design process toward its ambitious timelines and goals.
Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).
The building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Over 1,500 people, including James himself, spend their days strategizing, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world. From 2016, our HQ will begin doubling its footprint with an ambitious new expansion.
Be a leading member of their specific team, either supervising, supporting or coaching technicians, managing work flows, managing own projects or being a key internal customer contact
Experimental design for the testing procedure
Collation and supervision of the test equipment, ensuring maintenance is carried out as required
Own project test areas at Malmesbury, including taking day to day responsibility for Health and Safety within the test areas and ensuring general housekeeping is maintained
Manage purchases, SAP and ordering processes
Instrumentation and measurement during testing
Data collection and analysis of test results
Derive novel methods of non-invasive testing
Carry responsibility for large amounts of test equipment / test rigs.
Fabricate rigs & instrumentation methods
Design, create and ensure safe testing and documentation of appropriate electronic control boxes and devices
Liaise with PAT and other safety inspection procedures
Own, control and drive improvement in Risk Assessments
Receives minimal guidance and supervision, plans and executes their own work to the highest standards and in a timely fashion
Excellent hand-on practical ability, both mechanically and electrically
Good presentation skills
Good people management skills where relevant
Welding, standard workshop equipment and metalwork skills desirable
A desire to make things better by improved design
