Strategic Account Manager - Home Improvement Channel

The Strategic Account Manager role will execute and drive a retail sales plan for all Home Improvement national accounts that will result in delivery of Dyson sales and profit growth targets. This role will report into the National Account Manager for the Home Improvement channel:

Function Overview

Our Retail Sales teams epitomise the entrepreneurial spirit that has defined Dyson since day one: ambitious, commercially savvy, and strategically agile. We work with some of the world’s biggest retailers, implementing the most profitable long term business plans and driving innovative ways to put our technology into more hands. It requires managing multiple networks of Dyson people. And overseeing many different retail areas - from instore fixtures to online activation. It takes ownership, courage and tough negotiations. Being constantly driven to see clearer solutions and drive better sales


Role Functions in Conjunction with National Account Manager:


  • Develop/Present Annual Joint Business Plans for Assigned Retail Accounts:

  • Collaborate with accounts to maximize distribution and promotional strategies

  • Analyze sales trends to identify growth opportunities /risks and recommend solutions

  • Identify and Implement Sales Opportunities:

  • Perform analysis to calculate incremental lift and quantify ROI

  • Achieve Sales, Profit and Inventory Goals

  • Develop and Grow Account by Aligning with Dyson Strategies 

  • Deliver on Assigned Budgets on Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly Basis

  • Assist with Forecasting at the Account and Product Level as Required

  • Review sales/receipt plans with internal and external demand planning teams and make recommendations on adjustments

  • Manage Funds and Resources for the Best Return on Investment

  • Analyze data and implement high quality solutions and actions to drive business proactively with customer and internal Dyson category/finance and marketing teams

  • Seek consensus and approval from internal stakeholders for proposed plans

  • Monitor Retailer Sales and Inventories; Assess Risks and Opportunities; Communicate and Implement Best Profit and High Customer Satisfaction

  • Work Cross-Functionally with Trade/Brand Teams on Merchandising Solutons

  • Assisting in Account Negotiations, Line Reviews and Partnership Meetings


    Role Functions – Strategic Account Manager Specific:


  • Daily/Weekly PO Management – External Inventory/Supply Chain Relationship

  • Operational Excellence and Process Improvements

  • Daily/Weekly PO Management – Internal SOP Relationship/Management

  • New Item Setup, Vendor Quote Templates and Pricing Maintenance Requests

  • Online/Digital Campaigns to Support New Tech Launches and Nat’l Promo Events

  • Volume/Funding Inputs into Business Planning Tool/AnaPlan for DIY Accounts

  • Weekly POS Analysis and Strategic Planning and Weekly/Monthly LE Adjustments

  • Responsible for Assigned Field Sales/Demo Expert and DDM Relationships/Training

  • Owns All Aspects of Environmental Control Category Across Assigned Retailers

  • Assist with Implementation of In-Store Merchandising

  • Reconcile Internal A/R Issues/External A/P Issues

  • Manage Product Requests As Needed


   Develop and Manage Relationships and Processes with Internal Business Partners:


  • Seek out decision makers and influencers create positive working relationships across all levels of the business.  Working to create better processes and efficiencies that benefit the overall business

  • Accountability for all business processes related to the position, for example: 

      • trade marketing, brand marketing, BPT (financial reporting tool) PR, field, legal, engineering, ecommerce marketing, IT, accounts receivable, customer service,

      • and all related paperwork 

  • Must show strong channel management and marketing’s skills with the ability to orchestrate and execute all sales, brand, trade and account activities

  • Challenge the status quo so that creativity and invention are encouraged; take risks and be accountable for your actions

  • Partner with demonstration team to exploit event opportunities

  • Develop and execute key sell through activities with accounts

  • Align and develop strategies with retailers to best drive awareness and sell thru based on retailer driven initiatives


Fulfill other duties as required:


  • Relish the opportunity to pick up new activities that fall broadly into the role

  • Conduct regular sales meetings as and retailer partner visits as required




    ·  Bachelor’s Degree preferred;

    ·  Prior training experience for multiple individuals preferred

    ·  Prior experience driving a growing retail program with successful results

    ·  1-2 years in a sales/account management capacity required

    ·  Strong understanding of retail business and strategies

    ·  Experience in a retail environment preferred

    ·  Ability to work weekends as needed

    Depending on geographic requirements, ability to travel up to 60%, including overnights

    ·  Ability to understand the Dyson brand and uphold its integrity

    ·  Strong communication, presentation and training skills

    ·  Self-starter with strong organization and planning skills

    ·  Excellent persuasion and conversational selling skills

    ·  Ability to develop strong business relationships and build rapport with customers

    ·  Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

    ·  Attention to detail and accuracy
