The Database Architect is a key role within the newly formed IT Design team and is accountable for design and strategy across the Database solutions landscape used at Dyson, both today and in the future.

Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).

The building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Over 3,500 people, including James himself, spend their days strategizing, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world. From 2016, our HQ will begin doubling its footprint with an ambitious new expansion.

Function Overview

From servers and storage, to database management, network configuration, communications and collaboration tools, we’re investigating the future and providing global solutions.


As a Database Architect you will be responsible for high level plans and design database architecture to meet business needs, developing modelling strategies to ensure that the data sources are secure, scalable and perform reliably. You will analyse and makes decisions about the technologies and architecture needed to meet the business’ requirements.

Architecture solution implementation, product selection and strategy definition, or the introduction of technology to drive business improvement into an operational organisation and Collaborate with system architects, software architects and others to understand business requirements. During and after the database architecture design phase, where the key deliverables are high level designs and strategic roadmaps, this role works closely with operational teams to complete low-level designs, and helps implement solutions to ensure best practices, integrating with existing systems and practices as well as ensuring on-going supportability


We are looking for someone that can demonstrate a strong understanding of relational databases, database structures, design and data management and database programming languages and Strong knowledge and skills in HA, DR and replication technologies. Commercially you will have and display a strong grounding in general technical architecture to include hosting (on-premise and public/private cloud), storage, security and networks.

You will have a proven track record of enterprise level Data Storage design / architecture is essential and of senior level business engagement / stakeholder management.
