By creating the Diversity & Inclusion Director role, Dyson has identified the need to have a senior advocate who will champion and provide expertise on diversity and inclusion matters across the organisation.

Reporting to Dyson’s Chief People Officer (or Chief Executive Officer in the interim) and a member of the People Leadership Team (PLT) and Senior Strategy Group (SSG), the role will be accountable for the development and delivery of a diversity strategy to deliver tangible results.

About the role

Specifically, this role will:

Drive the development of a global vision and effective strategy for diversity and inclusion

Proactively engage with, influence, and advise senior leaders (i.e. Board, Executive Council) on the topic of, and business impact of, diversity and inclusion 

Build accountability and a sense of ownership for diversity at senior leadership level; coach senior leaders in their roles as champions

Promote the diversity and inclusion vision across functional boundaries, ensuring integration and alignment with relevant business activities (e.g. Marketing, People, Communications, Legal, etc

Create and lead the execution of an integrated, company-wide diversity and inclusion programme that supports the accomplishment of business goals

Set up and lead a virtual, multi-functional team of D&I champions across the business to deliver the D&I agenda

Leverage a network of D&I leads across the People team to execute open specific actions and initiatives

Drive the consistent adoption of the D&I vision and strategy across all sites and functions globally, whilst recognising local cultural differences that may exist

Provide a focal point and senior level sponsorship to D&I groups and forums across Dyson

Champion the needs of all minority groups and promote an inclusive working environment that leverages the benefits of diversity and values the contribution of all staff

Establish a clear communication framework, structures and channels to promote diversity and inclusion messages

Develop a clear set of metrics to measure, track, and report on the impact and benefits of diversity and inclusion initiatives on business performance and employee engagement 

About you

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen
  • Ability to influence and build strong relationships with senior stakeholders (ExCo and below)
  • Understanding of Dyson’s business and unique culture
  • Ability to link the D&I agenda to business goals and demonstrate clear and tangible outcomes
  • Ability to facilitate discussions at all levels of the organisation to drive outcomes and decisions
  • Expertise on equality, diversity and inclusion best practices and concepts, with demonstrable experience of having made change happen
  • Ability to shape and deliver an integrated, organisation-wide programme of activity
  • Ability to lead and deliver results through influence and virtual teams  
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate relevant data into insights and actionable plans
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Highly relatable and approachable, with effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop positive relationships by collaborating with others, engaging in constructive conflict, and managing interpersonal dynamics
  • Proven track record of project / programme management and the ability to drive programmes that support the D&I agenda
  • Proven change management skills and the ability to adapt to change in a complex and ambiguous, high growth environment   
  • Have a strong familiarity and understanding of legal matters related to diversity, equality and inclusion
