Dyson has an opportunity for a Powertrain Build Technician – Battery to join the Powertrain group within in its Electric Vehicle Engineering Team based at Hullavington.

Function Overview:

We’ve begun work on a battery electric vehicle – that’s no secret. It has remained our ambition to solve the worldwide problem of air pollution for nearly 30 years. Now that we have the ability to bring all our technologies together into a single product, we’re able to solve this problem at the source. For now, it’s all about finding the right people to make it all happen for 2020. This is an exciting time to become part of the team involved with the Dyson Electric Vehicle and building a new automotive company.


• Working with the engineering team to ensure build requirements are understood and manage the delivery of these prototypes to the test team
• Part the team to develop and drive the group into a world class build team whilst ensuring effective utilisation of the facilities
• Working on and delivering parallel projects and builds
• Create, manage and drive consistent QC process within the battery build environment
• Work with the process engineers/Lab owners/Operation lead to help set up QC schemes & methods for the control of incoming & outgoing materials
• Develop / Foster ISO methodology for both quality, waste & environmental aspects
• Part of the team responsible for lab safety records, operating procedures and risk assessments, carried out and maintained by the lab owners
• Ensure full H&S compliance within the battery build facility – Including High Voltage safety
• Opportunity to feed build process learning and experience into production manufacturing teams to develop series production methods and production design


• Degree / NVQ’s in a scientific or engineering discipline
• Experience working on multiple/complex projects simultaneously
• Excellent organisation skills
• Energy and Dynamism; engaging stakeholders in a positive frame to drive timely and successful outcomes
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build productive working relationships and influence
• Analytical skills; to be able to assess problems thoroughly and drive logical conclusions
• Experience with Battery pack build and handling processes and the associated H&S and cell analysis and the ability to critique complex data sets
• Credible; Ability to demonstrate a good level of understanding of engineering processes in order to work with design teams throughout the project development cycle
• Technical; Contribution to technical discussions would be expected
• Experience with NX Cad and Team Center PLM to view drawings and models
• Knowledge of application of GD&T and manufacturing processes
• Jig design/manufacture experience.
